Most people with a little extra belly fat would do anything to get rid of it.
For some it can be embarrassing and they find it hard to fit into clothes. But if you have a little bit of a belly, don’t worry!
There are many ways to lose your belly fat without going under the knife. One natural ingredient that may help is garlic.
In this guide we’ll look at how it may possibly help you lose weight.
Garlic has been eaten for thousands of years as a pungent-tasting vegetable.
In fact, it’s believed that garlic was one of the first cultivated crops in history because back then wild garlic was so abundant that they just started picking it from the fields.
In modern times, we know that garlic is healthy because it contains important compounds like allicin(1), which may help you lose belly fat.
How Belly Fat Accumulates
People often gain weight around their middle section of their body. This is typically called “visceral fat“.
Belly fat is usually the result of eating too much and not doing enough physical activity. Some people are genetically predisposed to gaining belly fat.
Others may have medical conditions that cause them to store more fat in their midsection than normal, such as hypothyroidism or Cushing’s syndrome(2).
Many cases of obesity can be attributed to simply eating too much food and not getting enough physical activity.
Not only do some people think their belly fat is unsightly and embarrassing, but the more they have the greater the risk for heart disease and diabetes.
Healthy eating and exercise is very important in fighting belly fat.
How Garlic May Help With Belly Fat
Garlic contains allicin.
Allicin is an organic compound that gives garlic its strong smell and taste. We know know that it has many health benefits too.
There are also compounds in garlic called saponins which may help break down body fat by stimulating our livers. So one way garlic might help with belly fat is by increasing fatty acids inside liver cells (called hepatocytes).
In one study, researchers fed mice a high fat diet and gave them either garlic powder or water.
The researchers observed that the mice who were given garlic had less body weight and liver cell (hepatocyte) size than those who did not get garlic.
Garlic also helped reduce some of the harmful effects of this high fat diet such as cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood.
So we know that even if we can’t tell exactly how it might help with belly fat, there is some evidence to support that garlic may help people lose belly fat.
But before you run out to buy some for yourself, let’s talk about some things you should be aware of when trying any new supplements or remedies. We recommend speaking with your doctor before getting started on any new supplement regimen.
Garlic is typically safe to eat in moderate quantities, but it can still cause unpleasant side effects like bad breath or nausea when eaten too much.
Even if you don’t experience these side effects, be careful because garlic supplements are not regulated by the FDA and may contain unacceptable levels of lead or mercury.
If this concerns you then keep an eye out for a trusted brand that provides high quality garlic pills to avoid having metals in your diet.
Also, speak with your doctor before taking any supplements containing garlic .
Some medications might interact badly with the active ingredients found in garlic, so talk with them first!
There is some promising evidence that garlic may help reduce belly fat , but there are also some drawbacks to consider.
Speak with your doctor before getting started and we hope that you’ll be able to fight that belly fat soon!
