Low Carb or Low Fat Diet – Which One Is Better?

Last Updated on November 26, 2021 by Femniqe

Repeatedly we have been told that it’s healthier to have a low-fat diet for a variety of reasons.

On the other hand, when talking about a low-carb diet, not many reasons are stated as to why it is better for you.

So here are seven concrete reasons why a low-carb diet is more ideal than a low-fat diet:

1. IT MAKES CALORIE RESTRICTION EASIER

The low-carb diet automatically helps to restrict the amount of calories your body consumes on a daily basis which will have a huge impact on your ability to shed pounds.

But the beauty of a low-carb diet is that you are technically free to eat as much food as you want, within reason of course, whereas for people on a low-fat diet will need to meticulously count every calorie the consume from start to finish.

The usually end up consuming the same amount of calories anyway and there are less restrictions on a low-carb diet.

2. ITS A BETTER OPTION FOR DROPPING POUNDS

A low-carb diet has been proven to lead to weight loss. This is the aim of all healthier diets of course but the low-carb diet has been scientifically proven to result in the most weight loss. It has been proven that it leads to more weight loss.

Some people were found to have actually lost twice the amount of weight as those who were on a low-fat diet, which is surprising, but what’s even better is that persons on the low-carb diet have a tendency to lose weight more in the abdominal region and this is great for overall health.

Less weight in the abdominal area can reduce the risk diabetes or heart disease later on in the future which doesn’t happen with a low-fat diet.

3. ITS A TRIGLYCERIDES FIGHTER

The low-carb diet tackles triglycerides. If this word seems foreign, then for your health’s sake it’s time you become familiar with it.

When the levels of triglycerides are high in your blood, the risk of stroke or heart disease also increases.

What happens is that the levels of triglycerides have a direct relation to the levels of carbohydrates in you body.

This means that if the levels of carbohydrates are reduced so too will the triglyceride levels. On the other hand, the low-fat diet can actually increase the triglycerides as your carb and calorie intake would be much higher.

4. YOU WILL HAVE GOOD CHOLESTEROL LEVELS

There will be increases in your levels of good cholesterol on the low carb diet.

There’s a misconception that all cholesterols are bad, however, that’s not the case. HDL or so-called “good cholesterol” helps to improve the body’s overall health and a low-carb diet increases HDL levels which aids in preventing heart disease.

5. IT TACKLES BAD CHOLESTEROL

Low carb diets have shown to work wonders for LDL, or bad cholesterol.

Scientists have discovered that while this kind of diet doesn’t directly lower LDL levels, it can modify the form that LDL takes which makes it less harmful to us.

This is imperative because it makes it easier for our bodies to tolerate and handle LDL, as it can build up in our bloodstreams and increase the risks of having a heart attack.

6. IT HELPS TO IMPROVE YOUR BODY’S GLYCEMIC CONTROL

Maybe you have no clue what I’m referring to so I’ll elaborate a bit more as this is important for your health.

Carbohydrates are converted into glucose and if you are diabetic then on the low carb diet you will be reducing the amount of carbs in your diet which in turn will drop your blood-sugar levels therefore, you need for insulin shots will also reduce.

This will lead to a major improvement in your overall health. For this reason, some doctors have and continue to prescribe this diet to their diabetic patients while the same cannot be said for the low-fat diet.

7. IT’S NOT EASY TO FAIL AT THIS DIET

Probably the best and biggest reason why the low-carb diet is better than the low-fat diet is that it’s much easier to follow and you are less likely to fail at it.

You would be able to eat as big a portion of meal as you like, as long as you stick to the simple rules, and it’s generally much easier to avoid carbs than it is to avoid fat.

Fat can be found in almost everything, so you will end up laboriously counting fat calories, which can be boring.

Think you could handle that daily for weeks on end? Yeah, most people find it difficult, which is one of the main reasons why low-fat dieters tend to fail more often than low-carb dieters.

So to wrap up…

You can see that there are some pretty good reasons why a low-carb diet is more ideal and effective than a low-fat diet.

Note though that it’s up to each individual to put in the effort and follow the rules or no diet will work.

You will only ever be advised on what to do, the rest will always be up to you and bending or breaking the rules will only lead to problems that could have been simply avoided.
